Creating a Unique Gift!

About the Artist

Ian (Andy) Anderson - Former Art Director. (1971 - 2003) Gold Coast Publications/News Limited. In June, 1974 Ian created the

Art Department for the Gold Coast Bulletin. Duties Included: Advertising Layout/Design, Cartooning, Caricatures, Marketing and Promotions.

In the early eighties, Andy launched the idea of creating the Gold Coast’s own Festival, (Gold Coast Tropicarnival).

Along with the then, Gold Coast Mayor, Keith Hunt, local radio 4GG Chairman, Barry Ferber and Entertainment guru, Paul Sharrat.

The festival became a huge success with Eisteddfods from the festival still proving to be a major Gold Coast event showcasing

some of Australia's most exciting  and talented young artists.

'Andy’ gained National and International recognition in 1987 when he created the ‘Dummy Highway Patrol Campaign'

in conjunction with the Gold Coast Bulletin and the Queensland Police Traffic Department.

The Gold Coast Bulletin received an award for his achievements  from the Queensland Government

at a special presentation at Government House, Brisbane.

The First ‘Dummy’ Police Car was hand painted and the reaction was an enormous success in slowing down ‘speedsters’ exceeding the speed limit.

The ‘Dummy’ was superseded by several other designs that were used over the years to curb motorists from dangerous driving.

The change of ownership from ‘Gold Coast Publications’ to ‘News Limited’ saw a more active roll in assisting

sales representatives with custom designed layouts and presentations for proposed Advertising Campaigns and daily press publications.

The full impact of computerization/digital art had not previously been realized and most art had been hand generated.

The advent of Digital media totally changed how artists were able to present their designs.

In 2003  ‘Andy’ retired from the newspaper scene to establish ‘Ian Anderson Graphic Design’ . His idea was to continue the fond relationship

with many of the well established and recognized  Gold Coast business houses that he had serviced whilst at ‘News Limited’.

It was during this period that one of his most respected business associates. Richard Newman introduced him to a publication

that was to change the look of how the marine industry was to develop on the gold coast.

The Magazine, Boat Gold Coast was of great interest to Andy as boating had been a favorite pastime of his for many years

and now gave him the opportunity to express himself in being involved with advertising design in that publication.

'Ian Anderson Graphic Design' branched out further in 2017 when by sheer accident  a good client requested a caricature that was

to be used in a  sublimated 'Fishing Shirt' design and the new associated business of BMA, ( Boating and Marine Apparel' was launched.

Today BMA has expanded with factories in China and Pakistan producing customized, high quality garments to  Australia, and beyond.
